DESCRIPTION
PHILIPPE STARCK (Paris, 1949) for Disform.
Wendy Wright" chair. 1986
Welded and black lacquered steel tube and sheet.
In very good state of preservation.
Measurements: 75 x 49 x 49 cm.
Wendy Wright" chair, designed by Philippe Starck for Disform in 1986. The piece is inscribed in a moment in which the French designer questions the strict rationalism of modernism to introduce a more ironic, free and emotional vision of the furniture. Its very name, with Anglo-Saxon and literary resonances, participates in this conceptual strategy that is common in Starck's work.
Made of welded, black-lacquered tubular steel and sheet steel, it has a light, graphic structure, defined by curved lines and flat elements of marked formal sobriety. The design combines functionality and expressive gesture, transforming an everyday typology into a piece of strong visual character.
Disform was a Spanish design publishing house especially relevant for its collaboration with national and international creators, and for having published some of Philippe Starck's first designs.
Trained at the École Nissim de Camondo in Paris, Starck soon began an extensive international career with firms such as Driade, Alessi, Kartell, Vitra and Disform itself. His recognition was consolidated in the eighties, after projects such as the renovation of the private apartments of the Elysée Palace and the design of the Café Costes, becoming since then one of the most influential figures of contemporary design.
