DESCRIPTION
TOBIA SCARPA (Venice, 1935) for B & B Italia, Mobilplast edition (Spain).
Pair of armchairs "Coronado", 1966.
Upholstered in original black leather.
In very good condition.
Measurements: 90 x 95 x 88 cm.
Pair of armchairs belonging to the "Coronado" model, designed by Tobia Scarpa for B&B Italia in 1966 and made in Spain by Mobilplast under license and specifications of the Italian firm. These are vintage editions, contemporary to the original launch of the model in Italy.
The "Coronado" series reinterprets the tradition of the English club seat and the Chesterfield with a modern sensibility, through generous, rounded shapes and a soft appearance. Upholstered in original black leather, these armchairs are distinguished by cushions that are visually integrated into the structure and by a subtle capitonné, features that accentuate their comfortable and sophisticated character.
Their balance of technical innovation, comfort and formal elegance make them an emblematic design of Italian furniture of the 1960s. Tobia Scarpa, educated at the Faculty of Architecture in Venice, developed together with Afra Bianchin an outstanding career in design and architecture, collaborating with firms such as B&B Italia, Flos, Cassina and Gavina. His work has been recognized with important awards, including the Compasso d'Oro, and is part of important international collections.
