DESCRIPTION
JOE COLOMBO (Italy, 1930-1971) for Zanotta, Italy
Work table "Maestro". 1969
Consisting of double top in 14 mm thick white laminated plastic laminate.
Chrome-plated steel legs.
In very good state of preservation.
Measurements: 70 x 200 x 99 cm.
The "Maestro" work table, designed by Joe Colombo in 1969, is an outstanding example of the innovative and functional character that defines the Italian designer's production. Conceived as an evolution of the famous poker table adapted to the workplace, it stands out for its practicality and the clarity of its structural approach.
It consists of a double top in stratified white plastic laminate, arranged in two large surfaces that favor simultaneous use and organization of the workspace. The structure rests on cylindrical chromed steel legs, which provide stability and a marked contrast with the sobriety of the tabletop.
With its clean lines and rational language, the piece reflects Colombo's interest in versatile, modern furniture adapted to new lifestyles.
Born in Milan, Colombo began his career as a painter and sculptor before turning to industrial design in the 1950s. An advocate of plastic as a modern and revolutionary material, he developed innovative proposals based on the flexibility of space and contemporary living. His work is part of important international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, and continues to be a key reference in Italian design. He died prematurely at the age of 40.
