DESCRIPTION
Two brutalist chairs. France, ca. 1950
Stained oak frame, bulrush seat.
Tripod legs.
Measurements: 77x 48x 49cm; 43cm (seat height).
Pair of chairs of brutalist aesthetics. Its design stands out for a strong and expressive construction, where the function is underlined by a visible structure of great plastic strength.
They have tripod legs, horizontal backrest with visible screws and lower crossbars that reinforce their architectural character. The contrast between the solidity of the wood and the natural texture of the bulrush brings balance to the whole, softening the formal severity of the structure.
Because of their direct language and material robustness reinterpreted from a modern sensibility, they are an interesting example of mid-20th century French furniture close to Brutalism.
