DESCRIPTION
PIERRE DARIEL (France, 1889 - 1953).
Pair of armchairs "Hendaye". 1930's.
Structure in stained walnut wood, seat and back in hand-woven wickerwork.
Back and seat reclining in three positions.
Measurements: 79 x 72 x 63 cm.
Pair of armchairs model "Hendaye", designed by Pierre Dariel in the 1930s. Conceived as loungers of great robustness, they present a forceful and very characteristic structure, with wide straight armrests and curved lateral supports that contribute dynamism to the set.
Made of stained beech wood, with seat and backrest in hand-woven wickerwork, they combine constructive solidity and visual lightness. The folding backrest and seat allow different positions, reinforcing the functional and comfortable character of the model.
Initially specialized in garden furniture in the 1920s and early 1930s, Pierre Dariel later founded Maison Dolt on rue Pierre Charron, near the Champs-Elysées. His production occupies a prominent place in interwar French modern furniture, with outdoor chairs preserved in the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
