Set of five dining chairs produced by Ebénisterie Seltz during the 1970s. Made in solid oak, they stand out for a sculptural construction of great presence, articulated by means of a singular structure of three legs and backrest of vertical slats.
The design is defined by the play of curved supports and crossed lines, which give the whole a strong architectural presence without sacrificing the warmth of the wood. The natural patina of the oak reinforces its handcrafted character and softens the formal rotundity of pieces halfway between modern rusticity and sculptural design.
Founded in the 1930s by Robert Seltz in Mittelbergheim, Alsace, Ebénisterie Seltz specialized in solid woodworking, developing a production linked to quality French cabinetmaking. During the 1970s, the firm was also associated with the production of designs for Pierre Chapo, underlining its relevance in French handcrafted furniture in the second half of the 20th century.
