DESCRIPTION
GUSTAVO PULITZER-FINALI (Trieste, 1887-Genoa, 1967)
Office chair "Albenga". Italy, ca. 1950.
Seat and back upholstered in original leather. Curved wooden armrests and star-shaped metal base with casters.
Height adjustable, swivel and reclining system.
In good condition, with antique patina on the leather.
Measurements: 80 x 62 x 60 cm; 44 cm (seat height).
Office chair designed by Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali around 1950. Rare and original piece, it stands out for its combination of technical functionality, material refinement and modern language. It incorporates seat and back upholstered in leather, joined by bentwood armrests, in contrast to the star-shaped metal base with castors.
The design is reminiscent of modern international office furniture, with affinities to the classic models of Charles Eames, although interpreted with a warmer Italian sensibility and craftsmanship. Its swivel and adjustable system reinforces the advanced character of the piece, conceived to respond to the new demands of the workspace.
Gustavo Pulitzer-Finali was an architect, urban planner and designer. Celebrated for his interiors for large ocean liners and passenger ships, he also collaborated with manufacturers such as Arflex; the "Albenga" model is documented as an Arflex production and linked to the outfitting of the motor vessel San Marco. His work is preserved and studied in institutions such as the CSAC in Parma.
