Founded in 1945 in Lemgo, Germany, by Alfred Staff and Otto Schwarz, Staff Leuchten -originally Staff & Schwarz Leuchtenwerke- established itself as one of the most prominent lighting firms of post-war Europe.
In its early days, the company produced objects in wood and metal, but from 1946 onwards it turned its attention to the manufacture of wrought iron lamps. In the 1950s, after Schwarz's death, Alfred Staff redefined the company's strategy, opting for mass production and a modern language that integrated technical innovation and formal clarity.
Recognition was not long in coming: the firm was a pioneer in winning awards such as the Gute Industrieform (today's iF Design Award), accumulating more than 200 distinctions in just three decades. This success reflected its ability to interpret the trends of the moment and translate them into functional and aesthetically advanced pieces.
In the 1980s, the company merged with RZB Lighting, giving rise to a new phase under the RZB brand, without losing the design legacy that had characterized it. Throughout its history, Staff Leuchten collaborated with international designers, creating luminaires that today are considered icons of Mid-Century Modern and Space Age aesthetics, appreciated for their balance between innovation, quality and timeless style.
