GIUSEPPE MUNARI (Italy, 20th century) for Poltrona.
Set of five armchairs, 1970s.

In the 1970s, Giuseppe Munari developed for Poltrona Munari a series of modular seats characterized by generous volumes and soft lines. This set of five low armchairs perfectly illustrates this approach, privileging comfort and visual presence. Each armchair is made of velvet, with dense upholstery and a low structure typical of the models of the decade. The wide proportions and slightly sloping profile reflect Munari's desire to offer relaxed seating, designed for the contemporary interiors of the period. The velvet has a regular and homogeneous patina, consistent with careful use. The foams retain their firmness and the seams are intact. Each piece measures 84 cm wide, 95 cm deep and 70 cm high, proportions that make them comfortable and visually balanced seats, easy to integrate both individually and as a whole.
Giuseppe Munari was an Italian designer active in the second half of the 20th century, linked to industrial design and especially to modern furniture, associated with firms such as Knoll or Poltrona and other Italian contemporary production companies. His work is characterized by a rationalist aesthetic, with clean lines, clear structures and a functional approach typical of post-war Italian design, combining industrial materials such as metal with elegant and sober solutions for both domestic and contract spaces.
