BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

VERNER PANTON (Denmark, 1926 - 1998) for Mira-X.
Vintage wall panel "Curve", 1969 design.
Velvet finish.
In good condition.
Measurements: 100 x 100 x 2 cm.

Vintage wall panel "Curve", designed by Danish designer Verner Panton in 1969. This panel, with a luxurious velvet finish, was manufactured by the Swiss textile company Mira-X AG, with whom Panton collaborated in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The Curve print is one of five main prints that make up the Mira-X set. It uses wavy lines with color gradients to create an optical 3D effect and movement. The panel is part of a larger concept in which Panton considered color, pattern, furniture and space as a single entity. As a result, the prints were used not only in the creation of wall panels, but also in carpets, curtains, upholstery and room dividers.

The border imprint "DESIGNED BY Verner Panton FOR MIRA-X AG" on the back of the fabric shows that this authentic original fabric was manufactured in the late 1960s or early 1970s. It therefore predates the later reissue by other companies.

Considered one of the most influential personalities of late 20th century furniture design, Verner Panton created a wide variety of innovative and futuristic designs throughout his career, especially constructed in plastic and brightly colored. Most of his best-known designs are still in production. Verner attended the Odense Technical School and then studied architecture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he graduated in 1951. In the early years of his career, between 1950 and 1942, he worked in the architectural studio of Arne Jacobsen. In 1955 he opened his own architecture and design studio, becoming famous with his furniture based on geometric shapes, manufactured by the company Plus-linje. In the late 1950s, his chair designs, with no legs and no discernible back, became increasingly unconventional. In the 1960s Panton began a close collaboration with the Vitra firm, which culminated in 2000 with Panton's retrospective exhibition at the Vitra Design Museum. He is currently represented at the DesignMuseum in London and MoMA in New York, among many others.
