Dining table "Forte Ponte", 1989.
Lacquered iron and original glass.

Exceptional dining table designed by Paolo Pallucco and Mireille Rivier in 1989. The piece combines an architectural structure in lacquered iron, with angular lines and great visual strength, with an original rectangular glass top. Its design is articulated by a base with an almost constructivist character, in which the inclined supports and the central curved crossbeam generate a sense of structural tension and dynamic balance.
The "Forte Ponte" belongs to the most radical production of Pallucco and Rivier, authors linked to the experimental Italian design of the 1980s. Edited by Pallucco Roma in a very limited production -different sources document it as an edition of 10 copies-, the table stands out for its severe, sculptural language, deliberately distanced from conventional domesticity.
Paolo Pallucco and Mireille Rivier developed furniture with a strong conceptual character, halfway between functional object, sculpture and architecture. Pallucco founded Pallucco Roma in the early 1980s, while Rivier brought decisive attention to the proportions, production and technical aspects of the pieces. Their collaboration resulted in designs of great formal power, marked by the use of industrial materials, forceful structures and a critical vision of traditional furniture.
Works by Pallucco and Rivier are part of international design collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which holds the "Tankette" low table, designed by the two in 1987, in its Architecture and Design department.
