DESCRIPTION

Attributed to ROBERT MATHIEU (France, 1921-2002).
Extendable wall lamp, 1950s.
Red lacquered metal and brass.
In good general condition. It retains its original lacquer and has patina, minor wear and surface marks consistent with the passage of time and use. Working at the time of testing.
Measurements: 15 x 15 cm (lampshade); 75 cm (extension).
French modernist style articulated wall lamp made of lacquered metal and brass, with accordion-type extendable arm and flexible adjustable neck. Its functional and dynamic design reflects the formal innovation of post-war French design, where technique and aesthetics are integrated in pieces of great expressiveness. The lampshade, executed in red lacquered metal with decorative star-shaped perforations, refers to the characteristic language of designers such as Robert Mathieu and other references of the French luminarist movement of the fifties. These Punctures not only add ornamental value, but also generate a delicate effect of ambient light when the piece is lit.
The ensemble stands out for its balance between industrial functionality and sculptural refinement. Its extensible system and flexible neck allow a precise orientation of the light, adapting to different needs of use without sacrificing its strong aesthetic presence. A versatile piece with character, ideal for interiors with personality.
Robert Mathieu was one of the most prominent French lighting designers of the post-war period. His designs are often characterized by the clever use of perforated metal, double conical shapes and high quality brass joints, competing in style and quality with contemporaries such as Pierre Guariche or Serge Mouille.
