BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Ceiling lamp; Following models of MATHIEU MATÉGOT, France, 1950s.
Brass and perforated and lacquered metal lampshades.
Piece preserved in its original state. Presents some signs of oxidation and slight signs of use commensurate with age. It works at the time of testing.
Measurements: 90 x 90 cm (diameter).
Elegant French ceiling lamp with six lights, made of brass with curved arms culminating in conical shades of perforated metal lacquered in ivory tone. Its aerial and balanced composition conveys a sense of lightness, while the structure suspended by braided cords and central ring reinforces its organic and modern character.
The micro-perforated shades generate a warm and enveloping illumination, projecting subtle plays of light, transparency and shadow that enrich the ambience. This refined metalwork refers directly to the language of designer Mathieu Matégot, a pioneer in the exploration of perforated metal and light forms during the 1950s. Mategot was a French-Hungarian designer, one of the most prominent French designers of the 1950s. He also made tapestries. He is currently represented in important collections such as the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris, the Centre Georges Pompidou in the same city, etc.
In this case it is a design of great sculptural presence, perfectly represents the aesthetics of post-war French design, where functionality and elegance are combined with a strong decorative and contemporary vocation. Ideal for sophisticated interiors or interior design projects with character.
