Floor lamp "Bumling" designed by Anders Pehrson in 1968, one of the most recognizable models of Scandinavian lighting of the second half of the twentieth century. Its name, "Bumling", alludes in Swedish to a rounded stone or boulder, an image that sums up well the friendly, compact form of its shade.
This version combines a stylized brown lacquered structure with a flexible metal arm that allows the spotlight to be precisely oriented. The circular base, finished in the same dark finish, adds formal continuity to the ensemble, while the rounded shade concentrates the functional and playful character of the design.
Its design clearly expresses the everyday elegance of Scandinavian modernism: industrial materials, clean lines and special attention to use.
Anders Pehrson was design director at Ateljé Lyktan in Åhus and a leading figure in modern Swedish lighting. The "Bumling" series, launched in 1968 at the Gothenburg lighting fair, became his most emblematic design and one of the firm's great successes, produced in multiple versions and colors. The model is part of institutional collections such as that of the Nasjonalmuseet in Oslo.
