DESCRIPTION
ARNE JACOBSEN (Copenhagen, 1902-1971) for FRITZ HANSEN.
Large coffee table, 1960s.
Wood top and aluminum base.
Marks of use, according to its age.
Measurements: 47 x 145 x 145 cm.
Large coffee table designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, with circular wooden top and central polished aluminum base. The piece responds to the functional and refined language of modern Danish design, combining a wide and warm surface with a light and stable metallic structure of great formal cleanliness.
The large circular tabletop provides a serene and balanced presence, while the star-shaped base introduces a technical and visual counterpoint characteristic of Fritz Hansen's production. Its design avoids any decorative excess and focuses on proportion, utility and quality of materials, essential qualities in Jacobsen's work.
Arne Jacobsen was an architect and designer, a key figure in Danish functionalism and international design in the 20th century. His work combines architectural precision, formal elegance and attention to the human scale. Designs such as the "Ant", "Series 7", "Egg" and "Swan" chairs are part of important international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Design Museum Denmark and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
