Ceiling lamp, designed by Angelo Brotto for Esperia during the 1970s. The piece embodies the innovative and experimental spirit of Italian design of the time. Its composition is distinguished by elegant white enameled metal domes from which delicate glass rods descend, creating a captivating play of transparencies, reflections and light. The result is a piece with a strong sculptural presence that transcends its function to become an authentic architectural element within the space.
Angelo Brotto was one of the most outstanding figures of Italian design and artistic creation in the 20th century. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he graduated in 1941, he began his artistic career with important institutional commissions, including the creation of frescoes in Montenegro for the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His talent earned him numerous awards throughout his career, winning prizes in cities such as Bergamo, Cremona, Suzzara and Verona.
However, it was in the field of lighting that Brotto achieved his greatest notoriety. His collaboration with Esperia during the 1960s and 1970s marked a turning point in contemporary Italian design. Together they developed luminaires that challenged established conventions, exploring new combinations of materials, volumes and lighting effects. Their creations stood out for their masterful integration of glass, a material that Brotto mastered with exceptional sensitivity, and for a futuristic aesthetic that anticipated international design trends.
This lamp fully reflects that innovative language: a combination of geometric rigor, visual lightness and technical sophistication that turns light into an aesthetic experience. Today, the pieces designed by Brotto for Esperia are considered icons of post-war Italian design and continue to be highly prized by collectors and lovers of 20th century furniture and lighting.
