BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

JORDI CASABLANCAS I MUNTAÑOLA (Barcelona, 1940–2001) for Muebles Casablancas
Dining table, ca. 1970.
Oak and white Formica.
In good overall condition. Wood has been restored; Formica shows slight signs of wear and aging.
Measurements: 74 x 160 x 160 cm.

Dining table by Jordi Casablancas, made of oak and white Formica. The piece exemplifies an approach to domestic furniture characterized by structural clarity, functionality, and an elegant combination of natural materials and industrial surfaces.

The square tabletop is framed by a perimeter oak stretcher frame, whose warm tone is a hallmark of its understated white color compared to the Formica. The detail of the octagonal legs reveals meticulous craftsmanship and adds a more refined nuance to an apparently simple structure, avoiding the rigidity of purely straight lines.

The table embodies the spirit of Jordi Casablancas, the designer of modern, versatile furniture that draws on Scandinavian sensibilities while being adapted to the Spanish context of the 1970s. Thanks to its proportions, excellent condition, and clean lines, it is a piece particularly well-suited for both dining rooms and contemporary workspaces.

Jordi Casablancas i Muntañola was part of the generation that drove the modernization of Spanish furniture in the second half of the 20th century, incorporating principles of Scandinavian design and the Modernist movement without abandoning the connection to natural materials and artisanal techniques. In addition to furniture, he undertook interior design projects and contributed to the promotion and teaching of design as a professor and member of the FAD.
