In 1961, architects Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá designed the Reno chairs and tables for the restaurant of the same name, located on Barcelona’s legendary Tuset Street. For the design of this table, which was later produced and distributed by the Gres company, Correa and Milá sought to reinterpret the traditional forms of luxury tables through their own contemporary vision.
This table represents the birth of what became known as “Barcelona design.” Correa and Milá did not merely design a piece of furniture, but an atmosphere of modern luxury. It was originally produced by firms such as Gres and, more recently, has been reissued and produced by Santa & Cole, underscoring its status as a timeless classic.
The Catalan architectural duo Federico Correa and Alfonso Milá, both born in 1924, were among the most prominent figures of the Modern Movement in the second half of the 20th century. Correa and Milá adhered to the principle that interior design and industrial design were integral parts of the same architectural project. As collaborators of José Antonio Coderch, they founded their own studio in 1953. Their work includes the architecture of summer homes in Cadaqués, institutional and residential buildings, sports stadiums, factories, and offices; interior design for the legendary restaurants FlashFlash and Il Giardinetto; and unique, iconic design pieces to furnish their own projects and for furniture companies such as Gres.
