This coffee table soberly encapsulates the design language developed by Jordi Casablancas in the field of Catalan furniture during the 1960s and 1970s. The piece is based on a minimalist structure with clear geometry, where the oak wood takes center stage both for its warmth and for the clean lines of the overall design. The tabletop with beveled corners softens the austerity of the square shape and adds a touch of understated refinement.
Far from any ornamental excess, the table embodies a functional approach to design, closely aligned with domestic rationalism: balanced proportions, visual stability, and a focus on everyday use. The lower crossbars reinforce the piece’s architecture and underscore that practical, honest, and well-executed character that defined much of the furniture produced by Muebles Casablancas. It is a representative example of a Catalan modernism that prioritized material quality, formal simplicity, and natural integration into the domestic interior.
Jordi Casablancas was a furniture designer and manufacturer associated with the renewal of Catalan design in the second half of the 20th century. Through his firm, Muebles Casablancas, he developed pieces with clean, functional lines reminiscent of Scandinavian design, paying special attention to woodworking. In addition to his work as a furniture designer, he was active in the fields of interior design, teaching, and the promotion of design, and was associated with the FAD.
