Designed by André Ricard for Metalarte in 1969, this table lamp clearly embodies the spirit of Spanish design in the late 1960s: functionality, formal precision, and an elegance free of rhetoric. The hemispherical white opal glass shade softens the light output and contrasts with the technical sheen of the chrome-plated metal, creating a balance between domestic warmth and industrial aesthetics. Its design is part of Ricard’s quest for discreetly sophisticated objects, close to modern minimalism but with a clear emphasis on visual comfort.
André Ricard was a key figure in Spanish industrial design during the second half of the 20th century. Founder of ADI-FAD and creator of iconic pieces such as the “Tatu” lamp, he developed a body of work marked by functional clarity and formal reduction. His career was recognized with the National Design Award, and his work is part of the history of modern design in Spain, particularly linked to the renewal of everyday objects and domestic lighting.
