Decorative sculpture made of Murano glass in an intense greenish-yellow hue, known as uranium glass due to its characteristic fluorescence, featuring a red core suspended using the Sommerso technique. Attributed to Antonio Da Ros for Seguso, the piece is a notable example of the renewal of Italian art glass in the 1960s, characterized by the exploration of sculptural forms, technical mastery, and the bold color combinations that defined the designer’s work.
Antonio da Ros graduated in 1957 from the Istituto Superiore di Arti Decorative ‘Carmini’ in Venice, earning a degree as a professor of decorative arts and architecture. In 1958, he began working at the Gino Cenedese glass factory (then known as Ars Cenedese Murano). Mr. Da Ros remained a permanent fixture at the Cenedese glass factory, always working in close collaboration with the master glass artisans. Under his artistic direction, the factory developed various decorative lines of contemporary design, always of the highest quality. First, with stylized forms featuring immersed colored glass; in recent years, using the “scavo” glass technique (a distinctive glass finish resembling glass unearthed in archaeological excavations), an important decorative line has been introduced in several new creations, all of which hold great appeal for him: the simplicity of the lines, the beauty of the material, and the modernity of the colors. His mature works marked a return to traditional Murano hand-blown glass techniques, but reinterpreted with a contemporary sensibility; examples include the “Venecia Sueños” collection, as well as the “Venezia I” and “Venezia II” collections.
