Pair of planters, Italy, 1970s.
Braided rattan with gold-plated brass trim.

Measurements: 24 x 31.5 cm (larger); 19 x 28 cm (smaller).
Set consisting of two planters with a hemispherical profile, inspired by the organic and refined aesthetic popularized by Gabriella Crespi. The combination of natural fibers and brass lends a warm and elegant presence, representative of 1970s Italian design. Both the technique and the formal language of these two pieces are directly linked to the design vocabulary developed by Gabriella Crespi, specifically her famous Rising Sun collection.
Gabriella Crespi studied architecture at the Polytechnic University of Milan, influenced by Le Corbusier and Frank Lloyd Wright. Beginning in the 1950s, she developed a distinguished career as a designer, creating furniture and objects that blend functionality and sculpture. She collaborated with Maison Dior in the 1960s and achieved international recognition with her innovative transformable furniture from the Plurimi series. Among her most iconic designs are the lost-wax bronze collections, the Rising Sun bamboo pieces, and the famous Fungo lamps. Her legacy was honored with a major retrospective at the Palazzo Reale in Milan in 2011, and since 2012, her archive and body of work have been managed by Gabriella Crespi Srl.
