Table lamp consisting of a glazed ceramic base with a stylized globular body decorated in earth tones and black, characteristic of Jacques Pouchain’s material language. It features a cylindrical shade lined with coarse-textured fabric, which enhances the piece’s artisanal and sculptural character.
Jacques Pouchain was a prominent French ceramicist, sculptor, and designer, considered one of the most important figures in artistic ceramics of the second half of the 20th century. In 1948, he founded the Atelier Dieulefit in the Drôme region, where he produced a prolific body of decorative objects, sculptures, and lamps that revitalized the language of French ceramics. His work is characterized by formal experimentation and mastery of glazes, creating pieces with a strong sculptural presence inspired by nature, architecture, and Eastern cultures. During the 1960s and 1970s, he designed lamps, vases, and decorative objects with organic and geometric lines that combined functionality and artistic expression, in keeping with the trends of modern French design.Today, Jacques Pouchain’s creations are highly prized by collectors of 20th-century ceramics and design. His legacy stands out for having elevated utilitarian ceramics to an artistic level, fusing artisanal tradition, technical innovation, and sculptural sensibility into an unmistakably French style.
