Designed by Poul Kjærholm in the mid-twentieth century, the PK22 lounge chairs are among the purest expressions of modern Danish design. Trained first as a cabinetmaker and later as a designer, Kjærholm developed a body of work distinguished by its structural precision and innovative use of industrial materials. The PK22 exemplifies his minimalist approach: a lightweight spring steel frame supports a suspended leather seat that naturally conforms to the body, achieving an exceptional balance between comfort and formal clarity. Its clean lines and absence of superfluous elements reflect Kjærholm's pursuit of essentiality, where every component serves both a technical and an aesthetic purpose.

Poul Kjærholm studied at the Danish School of Arts and Crafts in Copenhagen. In 1958, he gained international recognition through his contribution to the exhibition Formes Scandinaves in Paris, and in the same year received the prestigious Lunning Prize for the PK22 chair. He was awarded the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale in 1957 and again in 1960, and in 1959 became a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Today, his work is held in the permanent collections of leading design museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.
