The Tara sofa, designed by René Holten for Artifort in 1999, is characterized by a continuous form in which the seat, backrest, and sides form a single, enveloping piece with soft, organic lines, topped by rounded edges that evoke a sectioned cylinder and eliminate any sharp corners. Its slender, discreetly recessed chrome-plated steel legs create the sensation that the sofa is floating—an effect deliberately sought by the designer to impart visual lightness. The armrests, conceived as separate curved cushions resting on the sides, enhance comfort without compromising the formal purity of the design. Despite its generous dimensions, it maintains an elegant and understated presence thanks to its balanced proportions. Holten described the Tara as “a spacious, fluid, and organic sofa with a restrained design,” whose simplicity and refinement make it a versatile piece for contemporary interiors; the collection was further complemented by a coffee table designed with the same metal frame.
