DESCRIPTION
Based on designs by BORIS TABACOFF (Bulgaria, 1927–France, 1985); EURO STEEL
Dining set.
Chrome-plated metal, dyed white leather, and glass,
Measurements: 71 x 120 cm; 76 x 62 x 55 cm (chairs, x4).
Space Age dining set manufactured by Euro Steel, whose design perfectly embodies the futuristic style that defined the 1970s and 1980s, when industrial materials and sculptural forms transformed contemporary furniture. Crafted from chrome and glass, it combines the sturdiness of its metal frame with the visual lightness of the glass tabletop. The chairs, with their enveloping lines and white leather upholstery, stand out for their curved backrests and thoughtful ergonomics. The hallmarks of the minimalist and technological aesthetic—the shine of the chrome, the transparency of the glass, and the purity of the white leather—reinforce the characteristics of the Space Age movement, inspired by a fascination with the space age and innovation.
The set clearly follows the aesthetic developed by Boris Tabacoff, one of the most innovative designers of the postwar École de Paris and a pioneer in the incorporation of Plexiglas into designer furniture. His creations for Pierre Cardin—notably the collections of tables, armchairs, desks, and other furniture pieces made from this material—gained widespread attention in art and design magazines of the 1960s and 1970s. Iconic pieces such as the Table Menorah, the Table Forest, the Araña Armchair, and the Romano Armchair defined a formal language based on fluid curves, high-tech materials, and a futuristic aesthetic that is clearly reflected in this collection.
