The Sine table dates from the early phase of Marc Newson’s collaboration with Cappellini and holds a significant place in his career: it was conceived as part of his first project aimed at creating accessible furniture suitable for mass production, marking a departure from the handcrafted pieces and limited editions that had characterized his early work. The designer himself defined the principle of the series based on a simple structure combined with a second material for the surfaces.

The lightness of the tubular base and the expansiveness of the tabletop reflect this pursuit of structural economy, functional clarity, and ease of manufacture. At the same time, the slight tilt of the legs and the refined profile of the tabletop introduce the dynamic tension and continuity of lines that would come to distinguish Newson’s later work. More than a purely minimalist piece, the Sine bears witness to the moment when the designer began to translate his sculptural language into the realm of industrial furniture. The Cappellini label confirms that it was produced by the Italian firm.

Marc Newson is one of the most influential figures in contemporary design, with a body of work spanning furniture, objects, transportation, timepieces, and interiors.
