The “Translation” table transforms its opening mechanism into the design’s primary visual feature. When closed, it presents a square, compact, and monochromatic form, while sliding the four upper modules toward the corners reveals an interior structure lacquered in red and significantly expands the available surface area. The transformation completely alters the perception of the piece: the initial dark mass breaks down into an open composition, articulated by overlapping planes, central voids, and a striking chromatic contrast.

Designed by Ligne Roset in 2006, the piece embodies a dynamic and versatile approach to contemporary furniture. Its name alludes to the translational movement that governs the extendable system, highlighting the relationship between function, geometry, and movement. The combination of black-stained oak veneer with glossy red surfaces reinforces its graphic character and lends the piece the quality of an abstract construction with a striking sculptural presence.
