Alfred Chambon’s nesting tables are among the most representative creations of the Belgian designer and architect, a key figure in Brussels’ Art Nouveau movement. Designed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they stand out for combining extraordinary cabinetmaking quality with a refined decorative style inspired by nature. Conceived as a set of tables of different sizes that nest one inside the other, they embody the Modernist ideal of uniting functionality and elegance.

Chambon’s output was relatively limited, and many of his pieces were made for private clients among the Belgian upper class, which explains their scarcity on the market. Today, his nesting tables are particularly prized by collectors of Art Nouveau furniture for embodying the refinement of Belgian design during the Belle Époque and for the exceptional quality of their craftsmanship.

Alfred Chambon was a Belgian architect, designer, and interior decorator, the son of the prestigious architect Alban Chambon, whose studio he took over in 1925 after training at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels. His work evolved from the Beaux-Arts style toward a refined Art Deco, distinguished by his holistic approach to the design of buildings, interiors, furniture, and lighting. His creations, characterized by a combination of fine woods, metals, and an elegant formal simplicity, are representative of Belgian Art Deco and are today recognized both for their significance in Brussels’ architecture and for the presence of his furniture and decorative objects on the international decorative arts market.
