BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GIANNI MOSCATELLI (Italy, 1930) for Formanova.
Armchair, 1970s.
Chrome-plated metal and leather.
In excellent structural condition, with slight wear on the leather.
Measurements: 70 x 65 x 90 cm; 35 cm (seat).
An armchair with a tubular chrome-plated metal frame that wraps around the upholstered seat and backrest, creating a light and sculptural appearance. The fluidity of its lines and the contrast between the shine of the metal and the warmth of the leather make it a representative piece of Italian design from the second half of the 20th century, where comfort, technical innovation, and formal elegance are integrated into a single object
Gianni Moscatelli is an Italian industrial designer associated with the development of modern furniture during the 1960s and 1970s. He is particularly known for his close collaboration with the firm Formanova, for which he designed an extensive collection of furniture intended for both domestic settings and office and reception spaces. Moscatelli developed a design language characterized by formal elegance, geometric precision, and the use of high-quality materials such as chrome-plated steel, stainless steel, rosewood, walnut, and glass. His designs reflect the balance between functionality and sophistication characteristic of Italian modernism. Among his most representative works are executive desks, dining and conference tables, sideboards, side tables, and armchairs, as well as iconic models such as the Poney chairs, the Cheval armchairs, and the Bivalve 940 seating system. Many of these pieces are distinguished by their lightweight metal frames, clean lines, and a seamless integration of wood and metal—characteristics that defined Formanova’s identity during the 1960s and 1970s.
