Elegant French floor lamp made around the 1940s, of
carved and gilded, designed in the style of Paul Follot. The piece consists of
several turned and fluted sections, with a wide-profile base and a
sculptural presence, topped by a new linen shade. Its design reflects the
French decorative style of the interwar and postwar periods, featuring a refined,
ornamental aesthetic, and a clearly reinterpreted classical inspiration.
Paul Follot (1877–1941) was one of the great French decorators and designers of the first third of the 20th century, recognized as a key figure in the transition from Art Nouveau to Art Deco. Trained in the tradition of Parisian decorative arts, Follot began his career designing textiles, jewelry, and decorative objects before specializing in furniture and interior design. In 1903, he founded his own workshop in Paris, where he created pieces of extraordinary craftsmanship intended for a sophisticated clientele. Between 1923 and 1928, he served as artistic director of the prestigious Pomone manufactory, the decorative arts division of the Le Bon Marché department store, where he promoted the production of high-quality furniture and objects accessible to a broader public. His participation in the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris definitively cemented his international reputation.
