This piece is a creation by the legendary Danish designer Hans J. Wegner, often hailed worldwide as the “Master of the Chair” after having designed more than 500 models throughout his career; he was the driving force behind the Danish modernist movement of the mid-20th century. His philosophy was rooted in “organic functionality,” always seeking to strip furniture of superfluous details to reveal its pure essence, while combining impeccable craftsmanship with highly sculptural forms. The “Heart Chair” is a perfect testament to that genius: a bold design that is as stable and ergonomic as it is visually poetic. The wooden frame features an original black lacquer finish that remains in exceptional condition. Since it has not been restored, the lacquer retains its natural purity and uniformity, elegantly reflecting light and accentuating the fluid curves that define the backrest and legs—a clear nod by Wegner to the forms of nature. Masterfully playing on this duality of textures, the seat has been meticulously reupholstered in an off-white fabric with a rich, soft texture, similar to bouclé or terry cloth. This warm, tactile, and plush-looking material creates a stunning visual hallmark against the hard, polished, and dark surface of the frame. It is the perfect combination of the elegant austerity of lacquered black and the cozy luminosity of textured white, lending a surprisingly contemporary feel to this undisputed classic of Nordic design.
