BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

ENRIC GIL (Barcelona, 1935–2007)
Set of four chairs, c. 1980.
Iron and fiberglass.
In very good condition.
Measurements: 66 x 52 x 60 cm (x4); 43 cm (seat height, x4).
A set of four chairs designed by Enric Gil that stand out for their continuous steel-tube frame, with a seat and backrest molded into a single enveloping surface, resulting in a fluid silhouette with a distinct sculptural identity. The cantilevered base, rooted in the principles of modern design, conveys a sense of visual lightness without compromising structural stability. The seat’s ergonomics, combined with its simple construction, reflect the functionalist approaches that defined European industrial design during the 1970s and 1980s.
Enric Gil was an industrial designer and one of the leading figures in Catalan design during the second half of the 20th century. Trained in architecture and design, he developed a body of work focused on contemporary furniture and furnishings, characterized by functionality, structural rigor, and research into materials such as tubular steel, molded plastics, and wood. His work is part of the consolidation of Spanish industrial design from the 1960s to the 1980s, during which he collaborated with various national firms and contributed to the modernization of mass-produced furniture.
