Conceived as a monumental reproduction of a human foot, the UP7 Foot sofa, designed by Gaetano Pesce for B&B Italia, is one of the most iconic and provocative creations in contemporary Italian design. Made entirely of polyurethane foam, it transforms an anatomical form into a striking piece of furniture with a sculptural character, blurring the boundaries between art and design. Its organic form, with smooth surfaces and naturalistic contours, reflects Pesce’s interest in biomorphic forms and in design capable of evoking emotions and stimulating reflection. Part of the renowned UP series—considered one of the most influential design collections of the 20th century—the UP7 Foot is a piece of great visual impact that encapsulates its creator’s experimental, playful, and deeply innovative spirit.
An architect, designer, and artist, Gaetano Pesce developed a career marked by experimentation with resins, foams, and synthetic materials, as well as by a vision of design based on diversity, imperfection, and creative freedom. His works are part of major international collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
