Designed by Gabriel Teixidó for Tramo in 1975, this floor lamp is an excellent example of Spanish rationalist design from the 1970s, a period in which functionality, formal simplicity, and high-quality construction defined the work of some of the country’s most prominent designers. The black-lacquered steel structure forms a lightweight, geometric framework that supports a prismatic white fabric shade, creating an elegant contrast between the rigidity of the metal and the softness of the fabric diffuser. The discreet wooden trim at the joints adds warmth to the overall design and highlights Teixidó’s characteristic attention to detail. Equipped with a double lampholder, it provides uniform, ambient lighting that enhances the purity of its forms. Its balance of clean lines, fine materials, and functionality makes this piece a creation that fully embodies the best of 20th-century Spanish industrial design and the philosophy of Tramo, a key firm in the modernization of contemporary furniture and lighting.
Gabriel Teixidó trained at the School of Applied Arts and Artistic Crafts in Barcelona and began working as an independent industrial designer in 1970. His career is characterized by formal austerity, utility, and a commitment to developing durable products, free from fleeting trends. Among his accolades is the ADI-FAD Silver Delta Award, granted in 1992 for the “Canaletas” bottle rack.
