DESCRIPTION
Arched bookcase in the Hollywood Regency style. France, ca. 1970.
Brass frame with bamboo-style decoration and four smoked glass shelves.
Measurements: 175 x 90 x 35 cm.
Emerging in the United States between the 1930s and 1950s, the Hollywood Regency style was closely linked to the glamour of the film industry and the creation of sophisticated, theatrical interiors. This French bookcase from the 1970s continues that design language through the use of gilded brass and smoked glass—materials with polished surfaces that reflect light and enhance its decorative presence.
The metal profiles replicate the characteristic knots of bamboo, a recurring motif in the exotically inspired furniture of the period. The golden hue of the structure is a hallmark of contrast with the darkness of the four shelves, while the double upper arch accentuates the verticality and lends a distinct architectural dimension. Its open design allows objects to be displayed without visually overwhelming the space, combining functionality with theatrical refinement.
