DESCRIPTION
Table mirror. Spain, ca. 1930.
Cut and openwork brass and silver, with Modernist-style floral decoration.
Handcrafted.
Measurements: 28 x 22 x 5 cm.
The richness of the openwork design makes this tabletop mirror a distinctly ornamental piece. The outer frame features a symmetrical composition of large flowers, leaves, scrolls, and intertwined plant forms, executed using fine cut-out metal sheets that create a delicate interplay of solid and open spaces.
The small mirror is surrounded by a densely decorated openwork border that visually focuses the composition. The combination of brass and silver introduces variations in tone and luster, while the handcrafted execution accounts for the slight irregularities that make each motif unique. With its botanical motifs and linear design, the piece reflects the Modernist taste of the early 20th century for organic forms and meticulously crafted decorative arts.
