BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

GUIDO FALESCHINI (Italy, 1924–2016) for 4 Mariani.
Set of four “Dilos” chairs, c. 1975.
Wood and fabric upholstery.
Measurements: 80 x 53 x 54 cm (x6).
Set of six “Dilos” dining chairs, designed by Guido Faleschini for the Italian firm 4 Mariani around 1975. Crafted from solid wood with the seat and backrest upholstered in gray fabric, the design is characterized by a structure of continuous lines and gently curved profiles, in which the armrests emerge organically from the front legs, creating an enveloping silhouette with great visual balance. The space between the armrests and the seat lightens the overall look, imparting a sense of lightness rarely found in a piece of furniture made entirely of solid wood. Leather, an iconic material in Mariani’s production, creates an elegant hallmark with the warmth of the wood and ensures a high level of comfort.
The Dilos chairs are part of the so-called Pace Collection, a series developed by Faleschini for 4 Mariani, conceived to respond to a new vision of contemporary interior design. In contrast to the technological aesthetic represented by the chrome-plated steel of models such as the famous Tucroma, Faleschini explored in this collection a warmer, more domestic interpretation of modern design, without sacrificing the geometric purity and structural rigor that characterize his work.
Guido Faleschini was an Italian architect and designer who collaborated closely with the firm Mariani (now i4 Mariani), for which he designed some of its most emblematic collections, including the iconic Tucroma (1971), as well as the Dilos, Pace, and Big series. Alongside his work as a designer, he was highly active as an architect and professor of Architectural Composition, contributing to the dissemination of a particular conception of design.
