DESCRIPTION
Set of six dining chairs; Sweden, c. 1970.
Pine wood.
Measurements: 112 x 39 x 42 cm (x6).
A set of six dining chairs made in Sweden around 1970, crafted from solid pine. The sharply vertical backrests are connected by horizontal crossbars that visually lighten the structure and lend the set a distinct architectural character. The balanced proportions, wide seats, and sturdy legs reflect the influence of the Scandinavian Modern movement, whose goal was to create high-quality, comfortable, and durable furniture intended for everyday use without sacrificing the beauty of form.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Swedish furniture gained significant international recognition thanks to a design philosophy based on simplicity, excellent craftsmanship, and the prominence of natural woods. Pine, frequently used by leading Nordic manufacturers and designers, took on special prominence due to the warmth of its grain and its ability to blend seamlessly into both traditional and contemporary interiors. This set is an excellent example of the timeless aesthetic that has made Scandinavian design an international benchmark.
