The sculptor Adolfo Cipriani, active between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th century, developed a style inherited from the Belle Époque and influenced by modernism, endowed at the same time with a stylised idealisation, of great beauty, totally personal. He produced works in various formats, both in marble and in alabaster, terracotta and bronze. His favourite subject was always the female figure, and he produced numerous portraits of young ladies dressed as peasant women, and also in more fantastic attire of oriental inspiration. He also produced works on children's themes and genre scenes, along the lines of naturalism, as well as mythological themes. Cipriani's works are now to be found in numerous private collections and museums throughout the world.
