"Pair of griffins".
Carved oak wood, gilded and polychrome.
Measurements: 67 x 65 cm.
Pair of taps of accentuated detail and remarkable grace in its manufacture. The griffins are hybrid creatures (eagle's head, claws and lion's tail) whose legends spread through Ancient Egypt, Persia and Greece, among other cultures. In Greek culture, griffins appear linked to Apollo, and also guarded the wine craters of Dionysus.
