DESCRIPTION
Spanish school; XVIII century.
"Virgin on Calvary".
Bronze.
Measurements: 20 x 7 x 5 cm.
With his hands joined in front of his chest and an expression of pain on his face, the author recreates the figure of the Virgin in bronze. Her upright posture indicates that she was probably part of a larger sculptural group, specifically a Calvary, since the corporal expression that the carving gives off invites us to think of this iconography where the Virgin at the foot of the Cross contemplates her dead son. It is also evident that the work has been designed to be observed from the front, so it is likely that the work was originally located on an altar.
