BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
After VINCENZO CINQUE (Naples, 1852- 1929); 20th century.
Bronze.
Measurements: 96 x 100 x 30 cm.
This sculpture in patinated bronze, attributable to the Italian school of the 20th century, represents a young shepherd in contemplative and serene attitude, accompanied by a goat and carrying a kid in his arms. The scene takes place on a rocky base of irregular lines, which contributes to the naturalization of the whole and underlines its costumbrista character.
The detailed modeling of the clothing, with textures that imitate fur and rustic fabrics, as well as the tender gesture of the young man towards the animal, reveal a sensitivity typical of the vernacular realism that characterized part of the Italian sculpture of the period. The figure, with a naive demeanor and gentle expression, suggests an exaltation of pastoral life, in line with an artistic tradition that values the popular and simple as an expression of authenticity.
This type of representation connects with an idealized vision of the countryside, typical of an era that, despite industrial and technological advances, maintained a strong attachment to rural values as a symbol of purity and connection with nature. The piece, therefore, is not only a remarkable technical testimony, but also a reflection of the aesthetic and cultural concerns of its time.
Vincenzo Cinque was an Italian sculptor. His works, of classical style and pure realism, generally represent popular themes, inspired by typical characters of his hometown.
