Pair of angels of Spanish baroque school. They are round sculptures that show a work of high quality carving. The bodies are endowed with a certain ethereal condition, in spite of their rounded volumes. This is achieved through the gracefulness of the gestures, the fineness of the fingers, the twisting of the legs, and the subtle twisting of the bodies. The wings have been carved with attention to detail. Serenity emanates from the cherubic countenances. The facial ovals are framed by wavy hair that dialogues with the draping of the tunics, which are folded in a naturalistic way at the neckline, sleeves and leggings. It is worth noting the restrained dynamism of the ensemble. The bases in the form of Solomonic columns decorated with vine leaves are later, from the nineteenth century, although their presence reinforces the idea of ascending movement.

The anatomical treatment, with its formal rotundity attenuated by the gracefulness of the gestures, responds to the baroque search for vitality without losing the spiritual sense of the image. This tension between corporeality and elevation is typical of sculptors such as Alonso Cano or Pedro de Mena, who managed to infuse an ethereal air into solidly structured figures. The attention to detail in the wings and facial features, as well as the refined work of the folds, shows a technical mastery that links with the tradition of Seville and Granada, where polychrome carving reached heights of exceptional quality. As for the restrained dynamism of the figures, it refers to the classicist current of the Baroque, which developed in Andalusia, far from the pathos and theatricality more typical of the workshops of Valladolid. This pair of angels reflects the fundamental values of the Hispanic baroque: naturalism, dynamism and a remarkable technical expertise at the service of devotion.
