Period mantel clock in Art Deco style, designed by the Russian sculptor Georges Lavroff. It emphasizes the stylized figure of an Amazon pointing an arrow towards the enemy that remains out of field, stretched on the marble floor. Her nude body, with supple limbs, is combined with a straight and glamorous hairstyle. The pedestal is a plinth that combines different types of marble (red and portoro), describing stripes in different tones, and in the center the silver metal clock face takes a staggered shape. It is decorated with Arabic numerals.
Georges Lavroff was a sculptor and painter of Russian origin. He made sculptures in art deco style, mainly bronzes of animals and crackle ceramics. He was born in the Siberian village of Nazkmoï, near Enisseyske. There he began to produce his sculptures. After the Revolution he settled in the capital of the Soviet Union, Moscow, from 1922. In 1927 he was sent to France where he continued his artistic work. There he produced many sculptures of animals and female figures in art deco style, reproduced from molds in bronze and ceramics. He returned to Russia in 1935. There he was an official sculptor of the Soviet regime and produced busts and monuments.
