Large Art Nouveau tabletop centerpiece in silver-plated pewter, representing two Breton peasant women, holding with their hands a large circular bowl. In the piece we can see all the influence and aesthetics of the Art Nouveau period, both in its structure and decoration.

Jean Eugène Baffier (Neuvy-le-Barrois, 1851-Paris 1920) was a French sculptor and writer. He was first a stone carver on the cathedral restoration project, then attempted a career as a sculptor in Paris. He became known for bronze figurines (The Grape Harvester - Le Vigneron, The Reaper - Le Faucheur, The Vielleux) and pewter (vases, candlesticks, crockery), decorated with plant motifs.
