Emile Laporte, sculptor and medalist born in Paris, was a student of Dumont, Thomas, Bonnassieux and Barrias at the Beaux-Arts. He participated in the Salon from 1881 and won a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition. He developed a work with a classicist theme, reinterpreting ancient allegories and Greco-Roman myths. In this effigy, remarkably resolved, he seems to allude to the figure of Hermes or Mercury, although the character with the moustache refers us to another historical moment.
