DESCRIPTION
Andalusian School; XVIII century.
"Saint Raphael and Tobias".
Polychrome terracotta.
Measurements: 53 x 22 x 19 cm.
Devotional sculpture made in modeled terracotta that stands out for its colorful polychrome. The image represents San Rafael, which is deduced by the iconographic attributes that he holds in his hands; the pilgrim's rod and the fish, which appears in the inferior zone accompanied by the young Tobias. The piece stands out for its fineness, which can be appreciated in the dynamism achieved by the author through the posture of Saint Raphael, and the movement of his garments.
Saint Raphael is one of the seven archangels who is before the throne of God. He is known as the healing Archangel, for his divine intervention with the character Tobias, whom he healed of a blindness. He is usually represented with a fishing rod, next to a fish or with the rod of the pilgrims, an attribute that identifies him as the patron of travelers because, with his help, he guides in spiritual journeys in search of truth and knowledge.
