DESCRIPTION
JOAN VILACASASAS (Sabadell, Barcelona, 1920 - Barcelona, 2007).
"Planimetry 122", 1969.
Ceramic sculpture.
Signed in the lower corner and titled on the label on the back.
Measurements: 29 x 20 x 3 cm.
Vilacasas began his training in Sabadell, where he held his first exhibition in 1941, at the Academy of Fine Arts. In 1949 he went to Paris, where he lived until 1960, when he returned to Spain and settled permanently in Barcelona. His years in Paris were a decisive stage in his career; he became close friends with Yves Klein, an outstanding neo-Dadaist painter and, after his first figurative experiences, he entered a certain abstraction around 1955, calling his works from then on "Planimetries". He was a close collaborator of the activities of the Sala Gaspar in Barcelona in favor of the promotion of modern art, and one of the founders of the group O Figura. Vilacasas held exhibitions all over the world, in countries such as the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, India, the Czech Republic, France and Russia. He is currently represented in the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca, the Artium in Vitoria, the MACBA in Barcelona and the Tate Gallery in London, among others.
