DESCRIPTION
PEDRO ELORRIAGA (Gorliz, Basque Country, 1936).
Untitled.
Bronze. Exemplary 33/40.
Signed and numbered.
Measurements: 36 cm. (44 cm. height with base).
Sculpture made in gilded bronze, that represents in a conceptual way an anvil, which is noticed by the resemblance of the forms and the title of the work. The author plays with a constructivist style where geometry plays a fundamental role in the composition. The work reflects how the material, its movements and twists, its assemblies and fusions determine the schematic nature of the forms reduced to geometric planes and elongated pieces, subjected in the process of elaboration of a reality simplified to the maximum.
Pedro Elorriaga began his training as a self-taught sculptor. Although it was not until the 70's when, after a trip to Italy, he decided to dedicate himself professionally to sculpture. Only two years after making this decision he was awarded in the II Biennial of Tajo de Toledo and also received first prize and gold medal in Arte-Sport in Bilbao. In 1973, thanks to the Juan March Foundation, he received a scholarship as well as the Third Prize for Sculpture at the IV International Biennial of Sport in Fine Arts in Madrid, First Prize for Sculpture and Gold Medal at the II National Biennial of Pontevedra. These awards were joined by many more.
